Biography

Ivo Assad Ibri é mestre em filosofia pela PUC/SP e doutor em filosofia pela USP. É postdoctoral fellow at The Institute for Advanced Study of Indiana University – USA. É professor titular da Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo e professor colaborador da Faculdade de São Bento – SP. É fundador do Centro de Estudos do Pragmatismo do Programa de Estudos Pós-graduados em Filosofia da PUC-SP e editor das revistas Cognitio – Revista de Filosofia e Cognitio-Estudos. Coordena desde 1998 os Encontros Internacionais sobre Pragmatismo realizados anualmente na PUC/SP. É um dos fundadores do GT da ANPOF Semiótica e Pragmatismo. É membro integrante do Consulting Board of The Peirce Edition Project at Indiana University – USA que edita a obra cronológica de Charles S. Peirce. Foi presidente da Charles S. Peirce Society ? USA de 2014 a 2016. Em 2018 o pesquisador foi objeto do lançamento do livro (Festschrift) Sementes de Pragmatismo na Contemporaneidade ? Homenagem a Ivo Assad Ibri, Editora FiloCzar, São Paulo, 2018, 386p., constituído por vinte e dois capítulos escritos por pesquisadores brasileiros e estrangeiros. Desde 2020 é presidente honorário da Peirce Latin-American Society. 


Ivo Assad Ibri is full professor of philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUCSP), Brazil. He got his PhD in philosophy from the University of São Paulo in 1994 and worked on a post-doctoral research in 2004-2005 at the Indiana University (IUPUI) – USA, under a fellowship sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study at IUPUI. He is the founder and director of the Center for Pragmatism Studies of PUCSP, editor of the journals Cognitio and Cognitio-Estudos and coordinator for the International Meetings on Pragmatism, which biannually take place in São Paulo. His main research interest is American pragmatism, especially the work of Charles Peirce, as well as the theoretical connections between Peircean thought and German idealism. He published several essays on pragmatism and semiotics and a book on Peirce’s metaphysics called Kósmos Noétos. He has visited several European and North American universities as invited lecturer. He is member of the board of consultants of the Peirce Edition Project at Indiana University, where the chronological edition of Peirce’s work has been published. He was one of the ten plenary speakers of the 2014 Charles S. Peirce International Centennial Congress, which was held in July of 2014 at Lowell University, MA, USA. He is fellow past president (February 2015 to February 2016) of The Charles Sanders Peirce Society (USA).
